Reports to: Chair; Natural Sciences Department

Status: Full-time, 1-year appointment (2017-2018 academic year)

Start Date: August 15, 2017

General Description: The Department of Natural Sciences at Notre Dame de Namur University (Belmont, CA) has an opening for a full-time position for the 2017-2018 academic year. This is a non-tenure track positions, with an appointment for one academic year.

This position includes teaching responsibilities for both lower division and upper division lecture and laboratory courses in biological sciences disciplines, predominantly in cellular and molecular biology areas. Examples of courses that might be available are: Microbiology Laboratory, Developmental Biology lecture and laboratory, Microbes and Diseases, General Biology Laboratory, etc. While college-level teaching experience in all disciplines is not required, experience with a breadth of courses and levels is a plus. Candidates are expected to use active learning strategies in lecture courses and to take advantage of the technology and equipment available for lecture or lab activities as appropriate.

-Doctoral-level degree in a science discipline related to the area of teaching is required.
-College-level teaching experience strongly preferred.
-Passion for quality teaching centered on engaging students in the learning process;
-Experience with (or willingness to learn) integrating technology into classroom and/or laboratory settings to support student engagement and learning;
-Ability to thrive in a dynamic environment and demonstrated commitment to supporting student learning;
-Demonstrated professional behavior and excellent interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively as a member of a team;
-Strong commitment to serving the needs of underrepresented populations in science and in higher education;
